New Work Permit Extension for Quebec’s Skilled Workers
The Government of Canada has introduced a temporary measure allowing eligible skilled workers in Quebec to extend their employer-specific work permits for up to 12 months. This initiative provides additional time for applicants while Quebec processes applications for the Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ)—a required step before applying for permanent residence.
This measure is designed for individuals who have already received an invitation to submit a Demande de Sélection Permanente under Quebec’s Skilled Worker Selection Program.
Applications are open until December 31, 2026, and expedited processing will be available for eligible candidates.
In addition, employers in participating rural regions across Canada will benefit from a temporary increase in the Temporary Foreign Worker cap, rising from 10% to 15% between April 2026 and March 2027, helping address workforce shortages.
