IRCC Cuts Down Immigration Backlog by Over 52,000 Applications
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has made significant progress in tackling its immigration inventory. As of the latest update, the total number of applications—across permanent residence, temporary residence, and citizenship—has decreased by 52,700, bringing the current total to 1,976,700.
Of these, 60.5% are now being processed within IRCC’s official service standards. While the department strives to meet an 80% target, some complex cases understandably require more time and review.
Here’s the breakdown of current backlogs:
- 40% of temporary residence applications (visitors, students, workers)
- 45% of permanent residence applications
- 18% of citizenship applications
This progress marks a meaningful step forward in improving processing times and service efficiency for applicants worldwide.
