Canada Expands Support for Sudanese Refugees

In response to the ongoing crisis in Sudan, Canada is stepping up once again — reaffirming its global leadership in humanitarian efforts. Since violence erupted in Khartoum in April 2023, Canada has resettled thousands of Sudanese and conflict-affected refugees — and now, we’re opening more pathways to safety. 

New Sponsorship Opportunities:

Groups of Five & Community Sponsors
Applications open April 30
350 spaces available — no Refugee Status Determination (RSD) required
For Sudanese nationals currently outside Sudan (excludes Quebec)

Sponsorship Agreement Holders (SAHs)
Additional 350 spots for 2025 — on top of regular annual allocations
SAHs decide who to sponsor under IRCC guidelines

Government-Assisted Refugees
Canada will welcome 4,000 Sudanese refugees by the end of 2026
