Canada Immigration and Citizenship is modernizing the immigration system to support economic recovery and improve client service. 

Here are some highlights that will come in the months ahead:

Permanent Residence (PR)  

  • Online PR applications, including PR card renewals.
  • Access to status updates on some family class (FC) applications will be more easier and simpler.
  • Handling FC and Canadian Experience Class applications within service standards.

Temporary Residence 

  • Prioritizing study and work permit processing.
  • Using advanced data analytics tools to support processing.
  • Reducing application inventories that grew during the pandemic, including visitor visas.

Citizenship

  • Online citizenship applications.
  • Online tracker provides updates on citizenship application status and next steps.
  • Expanding use of online citizenship tests and video oath ceremonies.

Client Service 

  • Reducing wait times by adding more processing staff, digitizing applications, and reallocating work around the world.
  • Updating processing times tool to give more up-to-date estimates for various application timelines.

Canada Immigration and citizenship is working on improving client experience and developing the immigration system by relying on more people, new technology, and better policies and processes to better meet the needs of the many talented and skilled newcomers who want to call Canada home.
